RINVOQ USE

RINVOQ is a prescription medicine used to treat adults and children 12 years of age and older with moderate to severe eczema (atopic dermatitis) that did not respond to previous treatment and their eczema is not well controlled with other pills or injections, including biologic medicines, or the use of other pills or injections is not recommended.

NICKIE: I felt like because of my rash, I was hiding for most of my life. I was constantly itching.

DAMIAN: Now that she has less itch and rash, I can see that she’s more confident in her skin.

NICKIE: My name is Nickie, and I have moderate to severe eczema. Also known as atopic dermatitis.

This is Damian, and we’ve known each other since we were 19.

I’ve been on RINVOQ since June of 2023.

So, when I was younger, it was pretty bad. Then being an adult, it started coming in places I’ve never had it, like completely over my whole chest and on my back, on my stomach, it just started popping up.

DAMIAN: I’ve known her for a very long time, and I probably can count on two hands how many times I’ve actually seen her out in shorts or in a dress.

She would wear jackets and pants during the summer, and the sweat would cause her eczema to flare up even more.

NICKIE: Before I found RINVOQ, anytime I entered the kitchen, I always had to have on gloves. I couldn’t let anything touch my hands, even washing my hands, it bothered me, it itched.

When I cook now, I don’t have to stop and scratch.

DAMIAN: She’s been to so many dermatologists. She found a routine that kind of worked, and it still was bad in certain areas.

NICKIE: I was tired of going to the doctor and hearing the same thing. So, I did take a long break between my early adulthood on seeing providers.

Then it just became more of a issue for me because here I am an adult, still hiding my skin.

DAMIAN: She kept going and she eventually found a dermatologist who really helped with her eczema treatments.

NICKIE: He presented me with a different pill and also an injection.

We talked that over. And so, we decided to go ahead and try the pill.

I realized RINVOQ was working for me within days.

When I woke up, I wasn’t really itching. My daughter came to me and we kind of both were just standing there in shock like, “What in the world is going on?”

Within a couple weeks, my rash was much, much better.

It was very exciting. I put my dress on, and I headed out for my Saturday. I remember that Saturday.

DAMIAN: Her perseverance definitely is what I admire the most.

NICKIE: I’ve been going through this since I was a little girl.

Sharing my story is one of a kind.

I’m not hiding my skin.

It’s actually great to tell people my story.

Safety Considerations

RINVOQ (upadacitinib) may cause serious side effects, including:

  • Serious infections. RINVOQ can lower ability to fight infections. Serious infections, some fatal, occurred, including tuberculosis (TB) and infections caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses.
  • Increased risk of death in people age 50+ with at least 1 heart disease risk factor.
  • Cancer and immune system problems. Increased risk of some cancers, including lymphoma and skin. Current or past smokers have higher risk for lymphoma and lung cancer.
  • Increased risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, or death in people 50+ with at least 1 heart disease risk factor, especially in current or past smokers.
  • Blood clots, some fatal, in veins of the legs or lungs and arteries. This occurred more often in people 50+ with at least 1 heart disease risk factor.
  • Serious allergic reactions. Do not take if allergic to RINVOQ or its ingredients.
  • Tears in the stomach or intestines; changes in certain laboratory test results.
