Alicia: Raising expectations

ALICIA: My name is Alicia, I have active ankylosing spondylitis, and I've been on RINVOQ since 2024.

I was experiencing lower back pain symptoms and it really impacted my day-to-day life.

When I was on ENBREL, a TNF blocker, I was really settling for ongoing symptoms and inadequate pain relief.

It was hard for me to participate in a lot of my hobbies.

I went to pick up my camera one day and I was feeling so much pain in my back.

That was when there was like a pivot where I was like this isn't working. I'm still in pain, um, I can't ignore this.

I knew it was time to make a change.

I went to my rheumatologist, I was expressing that I had struggled to do the things that I love to do, and so they brought up RINVOQ.

I had already been so used to infusions and injections that it being a pill and being able to take it with my other medications, it's really become part of my routine.

A month after starting RINVOQ, I noticed improvement in my back pain and my fatigue and because of that, my quality of life also improved.

There are things that I didn't realize impacted me as deeply as they did—things like cooking where it takes me a lot less time because I'm able to prep those ingredients. I'm able to plan ahead, like one of the things with having a chronic illness is you're not sure how you'll wake up feeling.

For someone who is experiencing ongoing AS symptoms, you don't have to settle and there are options. But you won't know until you try, and all it takes is a conversation with your doctor.
