WITH MODERATE TO
SEVERE ECZEMA
(atopic dermatitis)
For adults and children 12+ years with moderate to severe eczema (atopic dermatitis) that did not respond to previous treatment and their eczema is not well controlled using other pills or injections, including biologics, or the use of other pills or injections is not recommended.
About eczema (atopic dermatitis [AD])
What causes eczema remains a mystery—but scientists do believe this chronic (ongoing) condition is linked to an overactive immune system. It may in turn lead to excess inflammation, which can result in symptoms like itch and rash. If your child has eczema, caring for them can be challenging. Learn more with these caregiver resources.

Front of body
What is inflammation?
Inflammation is the body’s normal response to protect against something your immune system thinks will cause harm. This excess inflammation can lead to the itch and rash of eczema.
Why does eczema itch?
In addition to excess inflammation, a common source of eczema itch is moisture loss and dry skin caused by a damaged skin barrier. This can make your skin more sensitive to external irritants, such as chemical additives in household or personal care products.
What are the symptoms of eczema?
Eczema symptoms include:
- Itchy, dry, inflamed skin
- Discolored skin: either red, gray, or purple patches, depending on your complexion
- Areas of swelling or thickened skin
- Crusting, oozing, or cracking skin
Helpful tips for managing eczema
Here are some steps you can take to help manage your or your child’s eczema symptoms.
Taking RINVOQ
It’s important to remember that eczema is a chronic, or ongoing, condition. Taking RINVOQ as prescribed is important as eczema can persist even if you or your child don’t have symptoms.
RINVOQ must be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor
- Take RINVOQ once a day, every day
- RINVOQ can be taken with or without food. Avoid food or drink containing grapefruit
- Do not split, crush, or chew the pill
Call your healthcare provider if you see medication residue (a whole tablet or tablet pieces) in your stool.
What should you do if you, or your child, miss a dose?
- Call the doctor about the missed dose
- Set up a visual cue or reminder to help you remember to take or give RINVOQ
- Use treatment reminders and fill out the treatment log in the RINVOQ Complete App, so you'll know when/if you or your child have taken RINVOQ
Check in with the doctor
Regular check-ins and open discussions with the doctor can help you or your child stay on track with a prescribed treatment plan.

Track symptoms
Use the RINVOQ Complete App to keep track of symptoms and share them with your, or your child’s, doctor.

How RINVOQ works
Eczema is a systemic disease linked to an overactive immune system and persistent inflammation. JAK proteins are thought to play a key role in the inflammation that contributes to symptoms like eczema itch and rash. RINVOQ is a JAK inhibitor, meaning it works with your immune system to help block the activity of some JAK proteins.
Because JAK inhibitors, including RINVOQ, affect the immune system, they can lower the ability to fight infections and may cause other serious side effects. It’s important to talk to your healthcare provider about the possible side effects of prescription treatments.

DR. RUIZ DASILVA: Hi. My name is Dr. Diego Ruiz Dasilva, and I’m a board-certified dermatologist.
A lot of people think eczema is just a skin condition, but it’s actually a systemic disease. People with eczema have overactive immune systems and persistent inflammation that contributes to symptoms such as itch and rash.
JAK proteins are like messengers within your body’s signaling pathways, and we believe that these JAK proteins play a key role in inflammation that causes itch and rash.
RINVOQ is a JAK inhibitor, meaning it works within your immune system to help block certain signals that are thought to contribute to excess inflammation.
VOICE OVER: Because JAK inhibitors, like RINVOQ, affect the immune system, they can lower the ability to fight infections and may cause other serious side effects. It's important to talk to your healthcare provider about the possible side effects of prescription treatments.

RINVOQ results
RINVOQ helps heal painful skin in two ways––by significantly reducing the itch and clearing the rash of eczema.
Two 16-week clinical trials tested the efficacy and safety of RINVOQ in over 1,600 people with moderate to severe eczema.
In these trials, RINVOQ helped provide:
Fast itch relief
- Some felt significantly less itch as early as 2 days after the first dose
- Many felt significantly less itch at 16 weeks
Rapid & significant skin clearance
- Some saw 75% skin clearance as early as 2 weeks––many at 16 weeks
- Some even saw 100% skin clearance at 16 weeks
- Many saw clear or almost-clear skin at 16 weeks
Long-term results
- In another study of RINVOQ, many patients had clearer skin, and many had less itch, even at ~4 years*
*In a less rigorous study, after 16 weeks, physicians and patients knew that RINVOQ was being used, which may have influenced these results.

RINVOQ results for adolescents (ages 12-17)
RINVOQ helps heal your painful skin in two ways—by significantly reducing the itch and clearing the rash of eczema.
Two 16-week clinical trials tested the efficacy and safety of RINVOQ 15 mg and RINVOQ 30 mg in over 200 adolescents (ages 12-17) with moderate to severe eczema (atopic dermatitis).
In these trials, RINVOQ helped provide:
Significant itch reduction
- Many adolescents taking RINVOQ had significant improvement in itch at 16 weeks
Proven skin clearance
- The majority of adolescents taking RINVOQ saw 75% skin clearance, and many saw clear or almost-clear skin at 16 weeks
The approved starting dose for RINVOQ is 15 mg. In certain cases, your dermatologist may consider increasing to 30 mg. Your dermatologist will prescribe the dose that's right for you. Take RINVOQ exactly as prescribed.
