For adults with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis (UC) in whom a TNF blocker did not work well, or after a different injection or pill when TNF blockers are not recommended by your healthcare provider

Setting UC treatment goals

UC stands for ulcerative colitis.

DR. CHAPMAN:
UC and Crohn's are chronic and progressive diseases. It’s important for us to understand that inflammation is the driver of your symptoms.

SUPER:
Inflammation is a key driver of your IBD symptoms

IBD stands for inflammatory bowel disease.

DR. CHAPMAN:
If inflammation is left untreated, it can lead to irreversible damage of the intestinal lining. The more the damage progresses, the harder it becomes to treat. Remember, inflammation may be causing damage even if you’re not experiencing symptoms.

SUPER:
It’s important to act early

DR. CHAPMAN:
That's why it's important to act early. When we talk about remission, I think it’s very important that your symptoms are improved, but I don’t want to stop there. Patients often ask me the different types of remission: clinical remission and endoscopic remission. We want to achieve both.

SUPER:
Clinical remission

DR. CHAPMAN:
Clinical remission is when you feel better, when your symptoms have been relieved.

SUPER:
Endoscopic remission

DR. CHAPMAN:
Endoscopic remission is our ultimate goal. When we do an endoscopy, we’re able to see visible improvement of the intestinal lining.

Visible improvement of the intestinal lining

DR. CHAPMAN:
If your IBD treatment is not helping you achieve remission, it’s not your fault.

There are treatment options that may help

DR. CHAPMAN:
There are other options out there that can help. Keep remission as your goal.

Keep remission as your goal

DR. CHAPMAN:
It will help you and your doctor determine the right treatment for you. Work together to develop a plan to help reduce your symptoms and get you feeling better. Remember, your doctor is in your corner.
